Wild Wonders: Flowers, Bugs and Butterflies â€‹â€‹â€‹

As a part of my internship in the education department at the Indianapolis Zoo, I designed an early childhood program about bugs, butterflies, and flowers. The program was designed to allow child guided exploration and discovery at the 15 different stations. After the free play, participants got to meet a zoo keeper and visit the butterfly conservatory. The program was offered on two different dates for about 30 children in total.

Power of Children: Host Cart

For a specialized project as a tier 2 gallery interpreter at the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, I reorganized a host cart that is used in the Power of Children gallery. The cart contained many objects relating to Ruby Bridges, Ryan White, and Anne Frank, but it did not have any objects about Malala Yousafzai, who was added to the exhibit in 2021. The cart had not been regularly used since before COVID-19 and was missing a lot of essential information to make it a successful tool. I researched the materials, reorganized the information and objects, and gathered data on successful methods for using the host cart. Now, all interpreters in that gallery are able to use the cart to create powerful interactions with guests.

Gallery Interpreter

Along with the Power of Children Host Cart development, I have spent my time as a gallery interpreter at the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis developing my facilitation, adaptation, adult engagement, and flexibility skills. I have learned over 15 programs in five different galleries, ranging from a preschool music program to a Greek folk dance lesson to a workshop teaching children how to use their strengths to make a difference like Ruby Bridges.

"Making cents of money"

In the Museums, Health, and Wellbeing course, I created a program plan focused on improving the financial wellness of children. This plan describes a program entitled “Making Cents of Money” for use in the Kids' Town exhibit at the Children’s Museum in the Cincinnati Museum Center. The program focuses on “making sense” of money and teaching children critical financial skills, such as earning money and saving, spending, and donating it. Click on the photo to see the full plan.
